The phase influence and the attributes required from a horse can be very different depending on the level of competition, the type of format and the target venue. The Olympic Games, with two rounds of show jumping and a reduced cross-country grade, is one of the few formats where show jumping has the most influence (45%), and cross-country the least (20%), influencing breeding trends. At lower levels (CCI2*-L), cross-country drops to 16%, while dressage rises to 49%.
